Scammers use “spoofing” technology to make their phone calls look like they are coming from your actual bank. Or they’ll call saying they’re from the ‘fraud department’ trying to steal your financial information. Here’s how to protect your financial and personal information:
– Hang up! Call the bank back using a trusted number.
– Never click on unsolicited links or call the number in a suspicious message.
– Legitimate banks will never ask you for your password, username, one-time code, full card number, or PIN.
– Set up Call-in Passwords with your bank.
– Set up Multi-Factor Authentication when available.
If you know someone who has been scammed, report the scam to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and to the FBI at ic3.gov.
